The weather’s been jackknifing between late spring bucolic and darkly ominous as of late. I got a good shot of the latter by the Mississippi river on Saturday: storm clouds rolling in with a quickness. Minutes before this shot was taken, you could see the glimmer of lightening flashes skirting the underbelly of the clouds, even while the slow tugs were pushing barges up the river.
On Friday night, I witnessed a noise of another type: Debauche, the ‘Russian Mafia Band’. If you haven’t seen their shows, I highly suggest you catch one in the near future. They combine fast-paced music, like Flogging Molly jumbled with klezmer and gypsy punk, with a hilarious stage presence and dance-able tunes. The above footage was taken at the Publiq House on Freret St, but Debauce plays all around town and beyond.
